Audio Feedback

Audio Feedback, what is it and how to prevent it from happening.

Audio Feedback or Acoustic Feedback is a positive gain loop that is created when an audio output feeds back into an audio source, most often a microphone.  The product of this is the familiar squeal or screeching sound you have likely heard at any ad hoc AV presentation or live event.  Below you will find some simple solutions for this common issue.

1. Position the microphones away from the speakers. It is best to keep the microphones behind the speaker system, but if this is not possible it is best to not point the microphone directly at the speaker.
2. Turn down the microphone volume, otherwise known as gain. This may be possible within your control system, by that a touchpad or analog device, or possibly with your microphone hardware.  If neither of these are the case or if this is something you do not feel comfortable with please contact Tierney Technical Support.
3. If neither of these solutions solve the issue or you feel that step two causes the microphone to be too quiet, please contact Tierney Technical Support and we will help you find a solution.
