SETUP: Create Topics in Google Classroom

Topics are a great way for you and students to keep organized throughout the school year. They help in easily locating content that has been posted as an assignment or question in the Classwork area. 

It is recommended to come up with a plan for your topics, prior to posting assignments and questions. This will allow you to be organized and consistent from the beginning.

You can build out your topics for the year, they will only show in the student interface if there are posted items associated with them. 

Sample topics to help with organization:

• Weeks ie, August 31 - September 4 (During Remote or Hybrid Learning this is ideal for an Elementary setting where students participate in one Google Classroom the entire day)
  • Consider adding one topic for a Monthly Archive, title DONE August
  • Consider adding one topic for important general information, titled Important Class Resources
• Units of Study/Modules (During Remote or Hybrid Learning this is ideal for a Secondary setting where each Google Classroom is specific to one content area)
  • Consider adding one topic for important general information, titled Important Class Resources
