Creating Self Graded Quizzes in Google Classroom:

To create self-graded quizzes in Google Classroom, there are 3 major parts.

Part 1: Create

Google Classroom:

1. Enter a class in Google Classroom 
2. Choose the Classwork Tab> Create> Quiz Assignment
3. Toggle Grade Importing to the right so it is activated and showing color
4. In the Assignment window, click on the Blank Quiz. This will take you into Google Forms.

Google Form: Create the Quiz

1.  Create a name for your file, a title for your quiz, and create your quiz questions.
   • Additional things to consider:
     • Avoid using short answer and paragraph question types. These question types require the teacher to determine if the student’s answer is correct or incorrect
     • Make the quiz questions “Required” meaning the students can not submit their quiz until they have answered all of the required questions.
     • “Name” and “Period” quiz questions allows the teacher to easily filter results later when evaluating the data in Google Sheets. 
2. Click Answer Key and select the right answer
3. Provide a point value for each question
   • Additional things to consider:
     • Add answer feedback. Providing answer feedback especially for incorrect answers helps the student to understand why their answer choice was incorrect.
4. Select the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner and make sure you have the correct settings for your quiz. 
   • Additional things to consider: 
     • General tab recommendations: Collect emails addresses; Restrict to users in your domain; Limit to 1 response
     • Quizzes tab Recommendations: Make this a quiz; Release grade immediately after submission

Part II: Distributing the quiz

Google Classroom: Distribute the Quiz to students

1. Return to Google Classroom where you created your quiz assignment and finish filling out the Assignment window with directions, the point value, etc.
2. Select the Assign button and distribute the quiz to students 

Part III: Collecting data and uploading grades

Google Classroom: Collecting Data

1. Click on the quiz assignment in the Classwork Tab. This will take you to the quiz in Google Forms. ***Note this document is still live
2. Click on the pencil icon in the bottom right corner
3. Select the Responses tab and see the data for your quiz

• Additional Things to consider:
• • Click the Sheets icon to bring the quiz data into Sheets to filter and further assess

Google Classroom: Uploading Grades

1. In the Classwork tab, click on the title of the assignment and click Turned in / Assigned. This will take you to the Student Work tab.
2. Click Import Grades> Import
3. Select the students who have completed the quiz assignment> Return> Return

     • Write a private message to students about their quiz
